Continuing Professional Development - CPD

CPD refers to Continuing Professional Development, or alternatively it is sometimes referred to as Continuing Personal Development. No matter what you call it, CPD is a concept which emphasises ‘lifelong learning’ proposing that learning is an essential part of professional life and not an optional extra.

CPD whether it is a condition of employment or to help maintain your professional qualifications is a growing and necessary requirement. The CMI in conjunction with the International Business School has recognised this need and has developed a series of seminars which will appeal to various professional disciplines and not just to members of the Chartered Management Institute.

The one-hour seminars usually cover a variety of interesting and motivating subjects and are a convenient way to contribute to the CPD requirements of Island members of the Chartered Management Institute and other professional bodies.

Open to all Island residents (whether you belong to a professional body or not), each lunchtime seminar is repeated twice in one month and costs £15 to attend. This includes a buffet lunch, which is provided between 12.30pm and 12.45pm, with the seminars starting promptly at 12.45pm and finishing at 1.45pm. All delegates are given a pack on arrival which includes handouts of the presentation and a ‘CPD certificate’ to demonstrate that you’ve completed one hour of CPD.

To assure you of the quality of the seminars, the content and learning outcomes of all CPD presentations at The IBS are mapped against the National Occupational Standards developed by the Management Standards Centre - the Government-recognised standards-setting body for the areas of management and leadership.
