CMI & BCI Working Together

Joint Announcement from the Chartered Management Institute and British Computer Society.

In the 21stcentury there isn’t a business that does not have technology at its heart.  It is not enough that the modern leader or manager just manages; he/she must manage the business and technology together.  Today’s leaders need the skills to determine their business objectives and then be competent enough to understand and employ the technology to achieve those objectives.

It is so easy to compartmentalise the systems function from the business function as though they are two separate entities, and in the 1990s maybe they were.  But in today’s environment managers need both Managerial and IT skills to succeed both on personal development and business levels.

It is in recognition of this that Carol Jempson –Chair of the Isle of Man Branch of the Chartered Management Institute and Neil Murray– Events Coordinator of the Isle of Man Branch of the British Computer Society, have linked up, with a view to provide some joint events throughout 2010 that are of interest to both professional bodies.

By doing this is it hoped that we can reach and assist those working in the modern managerial environment to keep up to date with both management skills and developments in technology.

We aim to cover such subjects as ‘Virtualisation’, ‘Cloud Computing’, Data Security, Website Hacking, Windows 7 migration policy and IT staff training as well as subjects that will assist with the wealth of issues that face managers on a day to day basis.

And if that all sounds very heavy going, our programme will also include some lighter items.

We look forward to your continued support.
